Inspiration of the Week

We Thank You

Our Basingstoke Young Carers are extremely lucky and grateful for all the donations we receive throughout the year. These donations all contribute to our club activities, trips and let’s not forget the cheeky tuck shop which is loved by all. However, we would like to dedicate this blog post to an extremely inspiration women who raised a lot of money which will help towards all of the above activities. This person is called Gail Walters.

Gail is a service officer and enjoys a good run, so much so that she participates in Marathons. Gail has run a grand total of 24 marathons and helps raise money for many different charities. Gail’s most recent marathon accomplishment was the London 2016 Marathon which took place on the 24th April 2016. Gail completed the marathon in 3 hours 38 minutes and 11 seconds finishing 170th in her age category and 8148 overall.  Gail also qualified for ‘Good for Age’.

As well as inspiring us all to trade our heels for a pair of running trainers, Gail also raised £405 for our very own Basingstoke Young Carers. This amount is sufficient for the Royal Bank of Scotland to make an additional donation of £250 taking the grand total amount raised to £655 🙂

This week Gail popped into club and to meet our young people and to have a chat with them all about her experience and show off her extremely heavy medal! The young people, although quiet at first, very quickly began to open up and ask Gail all about times, placement and what it was like to run the famous London Marathon. Even though Gail took a slight tumble during the marathon the young people were impressed with Gail’s commitment and extremely grateful for the donation.

After a good old chat we headed out to share a group photo and a chance to say thank you to Gail.
