BVA Ski Instructor Academy

ski-2

Although we are heading into the summer months we are beginning our BVA Ski Instructor Academy in collaboration with the Skiplex and Snow Sports England. You may be thinking ‘Skiing in the summer?’ well have no fear because this academy could provide you a Level 1 Instructor Award issued by Snow Sports England passing all those involved with a qualification to teach at UK Artificial Snow centres such as the Skiplex. How awesome is that, and the best bit is that this will cost you nothing.

This project is designed to encourage young people to consider their options, discover an interest in a new sport, develop the skills and qualification to teach this sport and hopefully pursue a future career in this industry. All young people who are taking part in this BVA Ski Instructor Academy will also be provided with 1-1 support to assist with preventing anti-social behaviour, providing self confidence and ultimately gaining that self belief.

The overall aims of this project are:

  1. Learn how to ski.
  2. Learn how to teach others how to ski to a basic level.
  3. Learn how to deal with customer service issues.
  4. Lean a basic level of First Aid.
  5. Basic training in computer based business system.
  6. To understand the need for timeliness in a work environment and the benefit of having a work ethic.

We are hosting an open day at the Skiplex in Basingstoke’s Leisure Park to meet all those who are interested in this opportunity and also for a chance to experience what it’s like to ski on an indoor ski slope with artificial snow. This open day will be held on the 18th June 2016 at 3pm to 5pm. During this event all applicants will also get a chance to meet and greet the BVA Youth Team who will ultimately make the final decision of who is taken on to the Ski Instructor Academy. If successful the Ski Instructor Academy will begin on Tuesday 28th June from 5pm and will be held every Tuesday for a total of 24 weeks.

If this sounds likes something you wish to be a part of, even for the open day then for more information about the BVA Ski Instructor Academy or to book a space on the 18th please contact Lee Goreham or Roxy Mills on 01256 423824 or email leegoreham@bvaction.org.uk.
